The polka was originally a Czech peasant dance, developed in Eastern Bohemia (now part of Czechoslovakia). Now a popular social dance and a competitive dance on the Country Western circuit, Polka consists of both 4 and 8 count patterns and is performed with an "upward lilted" motion.
